Microservices E-commerce

Scalable e-commerce platform with decoupled services for auth, order, and payment processing.

System Overview

A distributed system designed for high availability and independent scalability of core business domains. It uses an API Gateway to manage external traffic and route it to appropriate microservices.

Technical Implementation

Each service (Auth, Order, Payment) is a standalone application that communicates via gRPC or REST. The Order Engine manages the complex state transitions of an order and persists data to a PostgreSQL cluster. A Redis cache layer is used to reduce latency for frequently accessed product and session data.

Key Considerations

How do you handle distributed transactions?

We predominantly use the Saga Pattern to maintain eventual consistency across microservices, using a message broker for orchestration.

Why use a separate Order Engine?

Decoupling orders from the product catalog allows the system to scale its most write-intensive workloads independently during high-traffic sales events.
